Many countries are in the process of easing their lockdown restrictions, and whilst it may be some time before borders begin to re-open and flights are allowed to continue as they did prior to the global pandemic, it is very much on its way and it won’t be long before we’re able to fly off to our favourite holiday destination once again. But as with many businesses, there will be a vast number of changes to ensure safety within airlines and airports and much of what can be expected will be a tentative approach to getting people flying once more – one area that has already been suggested is within flight capacity as it has been made clear that many may restrict use of the middle seat to allow additional space between passengers, temperature checks both whilst boarding and disembarking, and additional spacing during queues and movement around the airport, but all this leads to one thing – increased boarding times.

There have already been a number of speculations that boarding times could see a dramatic rise – even suggesting that these boarding times could reach as high as four hours in some situations, but with this increased waiting time, how can you avoid boredom?
1. Look off the beaten track – You may have your holiday preparations all set out and are ready to have a relaxing getaway – however sticking to the prior set-up attractions and entertainment can be tiresome and old, and you may not really get to experience the culture or landscape of where you are. Look for some reviews or comments on what is possible if you venture a little off the beaten track and experience your getaway with a newer experience.
2. A little mobile time – Our mobile devices can be used for a whole host of things – whilst the wifi at the airport may not be the greatest, the introduction of 5G that is nearly here will give you better connectivity and speeds than ever before, and with this an increased opportunity to use your device. Perhaps you can use the time to learn some words or phrases in a different language to match your holiday destination to help when you’re venturing off the beaten path, many streaming services with unique offerings give a wealth of distraction and as more operators choose to register outside of the UK, non gamstop casinos are actually a thing that are available to you to access from anywhere you choose.
3. Get some work done – Depending on what you do for a living, this downtime may be the perfect time to get a little work done before your getaway – if you’re able to get to your gate early, it may be quiet with little distraction and if you’re set to be there for a number of hours then it may prove to be the perfect setting for a little work – big windows to let in plenty of light and watch the planes rolling around the runway are a perfect backdrop to type away on your laptop – these might turn out to be your most productive hours yet!
Travelling is rarely a relaxing experience and delays are always frustrating – but as these delays are expected and may be longer than many previously experienced, making the most of the time given could drastically change your travel experience.
