If you want to get to one of many destinations on the other side of the world, then a long-haul flight is going to be inevitable. Few travellers eagerly look forward to flying long-haul; after all, being stuck in your seat on a plane for almost a full day can quickly get both uncomfortable and boring. However, the good news is that not all long-haul flights need to be miserable! No matter where you are flying to, we’ve put together some top tips to help you get the best experience out of your flight and ensure you arrive at your destination feeling happy, relaxed, and ready to get exploring.
Tip #1. Upgrade:
When it comes to flying long-haul, upgrading your package is one of the best investments that you can make. When you’re going to be stuck on a flight for ten hours or more, it’s always better to be as comfortable as you possibly can. If you collect air-miles, then don’t forget to use these towards upgrading your flight if possible. Or, you could even try and get a flight upgrade to business or first class for free – there are several ways that you can do this, if there are empty seats available. Tip #2. Be Prepared:
One of the worst things about flying long-haul is the boredom. When you’re sitting on a plane for hours on end, it’s not uncommon to run out of things to do, which will lead to you sitting there simply trying to pass the time. Of course, you could always try and sleep, however, for many flyers, this isn’t always a possible solution as airline seats aren’t always the most comfortable to snooze in. Make sure that you arrive at the airport prepared with various things to keep you occupied in flight, for example, a couple of books to read, and a playlist of music ready to listen to. If there is in-flight Wi-Fi, then you’ll be able to use the internet on your gadgets so be sure to take along a portable charging device, too.
Tip #3. Be Comfortable:
There’s nothing worse than being on a flight for long hours, and being uncomfortable. Before you set off, it’s important to prioritise your comfort in-flight, for example, by wearing comfortable and breathable clothing that you can easily move around in without being restricted. Opt for bottoms with a stretchy waistband, and shoes that have a little bit of room in them in case your feet swell. You may also want to take some hand and face cream, as the air on flights can quickly dry out your skin leaving it feeling tight and moisture-starved. Don’t forget to take a comfortable travel pillow, and a blanket for if you plan to sleep.
Tip #4. Pack Lightly:
When it comes to packing the items that you’re going to be taking in the cabin, packing lightly is a good idea. Too much stuff to keep underneath the seat in front can restrict your leg room and leave you feeling cramped for the duration of your flight.
