Smartphones are revolutionising the way we travel. Now we can download an app for anything – from checking into flights and hailing cabs to documenting the experience and finding our way from A to B.
It wasn’t that long ago that day-to-day travel and holidays meant careful planning and preparation, so that you didn’t start your journey only to realise that you had left something important – like the tickets – at home.
Now, there is not a lot that your mobile phone can’t do to assist you in your travels and make them that little bit easier. Except, maybe teleport you to where you need to be, which would be ideal as you board a 24-hour flight – perhaps in the next few years, with the speed at which technology is advancing!
But for now, here are some of the many ways our phones are changing the way we travel:
1. Planning
Reading up on your destination is at your fingertips, and planning couldn’t be simpler with the internet and apps available to you. Check out blogs, reviews and images to prepare you for your trip! Then you can, when driving for example, check the route for traffic and when flying abroad check the weather before leaving without your umbrella!
2. Booking
Apps such as Sky Scanner and Hostelworld allow us to book the best flights and accommodation at a good price, whilst the likes of WorldMate generates an itemised itinerary from the confirmation of our flights/hotels/hire car and restaurant bookings.
3. Checking-in
A traveller’s nightmare is getting to the airport and realising they have left important documents and details at home. But now apps don’t only allow us to book online, they store all our documents as well as enabling us to check-in!
4. No more getting lost!
Getting lost in an unfamiliar place is a thing of the past thanks to the online maps and guides available to you on your smartphone. Don’t know where the nearest restaurant is? Ask Siri!
5. Capture the moment
Now you don’t have to wait to return from your trip to get your photos developed. Phones don’t only allow us to take photos and videos as we travel, they allow us to send them anywhere in the world. No longer do we need to send a ‘wish you were here’ postcard, we can make friends and family jealous with images instantaneously.
6. Entertainment at your fingertips
With the added excitement that you are on your way to a new destination, the travelling in between can feel very long and boring. However, with music, games, reading material and more at your fingertips, the time will fly by!
7. Pay as you go!
With Apple Wallet you can store your credit and debit cards, as well as loyalty and reward cards on your phone!
Obviously, the only downside to relying on technology is that it can break at the most inopportune of moments. But don’t let this worry you! If a cracked screen means you can’t actually see anything behind it, to make the most of the above visit http://www.lovefone.co.uk/ where you will be able to get it fixed within an hour! This means you can get back to planning and booking your travel, without worrying and waiting for a working phone.
