By population, Johannesburg is the largest city in South Africa. Here, you can find great culture and art, including some of Africa’s most highly regarded artworks in the Johannesburg Art Gallery. In addition to this, every September the Johannesburg International Arts Alive Festival really brings the city to life, with arts and crafts, photography, drama and different types of music.
If you want to visit here, you’ll want to find a great place to stay as well. The Westcliff hotel, although being in the center of the city, has a real rural vibe. Luxury is abundant here and with its Botanica Spa Suites to be found in the gardens, you can really feel like you are on holiday. Have a massage, before perhaps a dip in a pool.
However, there are plenty of other hotels in Johannesburg, so if you are looking for something with a little more simplicity, try My Destination Johannesburg to find something that suites you. For example, the Mercure Inn, Randburg is located near many tourist attractions such as Lion park and is also not too far from Johannesburg International Airport.
Also close to the airport is the Afrique Boutique Hotel. This is a fun and creative place, with a fresh vibe. It is wheelchair friendly and a great place to stay if you need to be near to the airport.
A bit different, is Cradle Cove, found in the Cradle of Mankind World Heritage Site. This is close to Lanseria airport, which is ideal for internal travel. The accommodation found here is of a self-catering style in a cabin. It is ideal for relaxing in a tranquil, outdoors environment, from where you can easily have a walk into nature. So if you fancy something a little different than your regular hotel, try this one out for size.
There are lots of different places to stay in Johannesburg, and lots to do. If you want to find out more about the history of Africa, visit the Apartheid museum in Soweto. You will be able to gain a great insight into this place, and enjoy your travels further.
