How long has it been since you’ve taken a vacation? If you’re like most people, chances are it’s been a while. The cost of taking a trip and finding the time to leave your responsibilities behind are often difficult to determine. So, you put off getting away and keep doing your best to get by. The only problem with this is, however, that remaining in the same circumstances every day is not only boring, but it can be bad for your health.
When you’re on vacation you have time to be away from your normal surroundings and routine. It gives you the opportunity to learn more about yourself and the world around you while taking a break from the stresses that are common in life. Just a few days out of town can give you mental clarity and physical healing like you’ve never seen before. But how do you know when you NEED to get away as opposed to when you just want to? Here are some signs to pay attention to:
You’ve Become Scrooge – Yelling, being rude, and lashing out at others in the office or at home is a clear sign you need a break before you make matters worse. Everyone has days where they’re not in the best mood, but if you’re always moody, this is a sign you need to relax your mind with a little trip.
You Don’t Want to Do Anything – Sometimes life can become so mundane that you feel like you’re on autopilot. After a while, you become fed up with doing the same things and before long you sink into what may feel like a depression where you don’t want to do a thing. As you still have responsibilities, neglecting them is never ideal. So, taking a trip might be worth it to change things up for a few days.
You’re Self-Medicating – Has getting through each day become a process of using a combination of pills and alcohol? Perhaps you’re taking pain pills for the unexplained body aches (likely brought on by stress) and then finishing off the night with a bottle of wine or 6-pack of beer? If so, you not only need a vacation, but you may need to check yourself into a drug rehab in Georgia or in a state most comfortable for you to get well.
You Just Don’t Feel Well – When you’re stressed to the max your body will start to send up red flags. You may start to feel physically run-down. You might experience headaches, back aches, vision trouble, stomach problems, and even a weakened immune system. In any event, your body is screaming for some R&R, so it’s probably a good idea to plan a vacation.
A vacation is a lot more than fun in the sun. It is time away from your normal routine and responsibilities. Every now and then everyone needs a break. Life, your circumstances, your mind and body all have a way of letting you know when that time comes. If you’ve noticed any of these signs above, it’s time to unplug, relax, and recenter so that you can come back with new energy and peace of mind.
