Traveling is a time for exploration and adventure. There’s always more to see and do, and as long as you’re on the lookout, you’ll never get bored. Which is why some people find it strange that others like to watch TV while traveling. I’m not talking about simply turning on the hotel TV at night. Some prefer to stream their favorite shows over the hotel Wi-Fi, if they can’t get it on broadcast television.
You might be looking for the best VPN for iPad if you’re going somewhere overseas. Other countries won’t necessarily have what you love to watch.
But why stream in the first place? Here are some of the pros and cons of streaming TV while traveling.
Pro
You have something to do in your hotel at night. Yes, there’s a lot to do outside your hotel, but once you’ve settled down for the night, a small hotel room can get very boring.
Con
It might prevent you from more exploration. Sometimes you might think you’ve done enough for the day. But if the inside of your hotel room makes you want to scream, you’ll go find something you never knew you were looking for. Maybe a party happening somewhere, or even just a quiet coffee shop in a beautiful part of town.
Pro
Watching TV is a nice way to wind down after a day of hiking or touring. You’ve come back to your hotel room exhausted and ready for bed, but it’s hard to go straight from the wonderful new experiences to sleep.
Con
If you get too caught up in a series, you might not get the rest you need. Instead, you’ll stay up later than you intended, and be too tired to appreciate the following day of your travels.
Pro
There’s a relatively good chance you’ll get sick on a long trip. We tend to spend the first days of our travels non-stop, making sure we see and do everything, packing every day with experiences. After a few days, you might end up feeling both burnt out and sick. If you need some time to recover, you’ll want something to do. And keeping up with your favorite series is a good way to go.
Con
You might “give up” too easily. Are you sick or are you just tired? If you’re just tired, maybe you’ll appreciate keeping going anyway. After all, if you slow down you might lose momentum. However, if a screen is drawing you to the hotel room, it can seem a much more comfortable option than just carrying on.
Pro
You won’t have to hide from the internet. If you’re not up to date with the latest episode of Game Of Thrones, the internet can be your worst enemy. Every status update about how “shook” someone is, or Buzzfeed articles telling you in the headline that “someone” died. It’s one big minefield.
Con
Maybe you could do with a little more investment in a TV show. Traveling is a time to explore a new you, disconnected from the life you’re so comfortable in and used to. You find out that what was so important to you at home is not actually that big a deal. The same can happen with the series that’s such a huge priority. Take a break from it. Don’t panic over spoilers. And see if your life is actually any less interesting!
