The fact that I’m married to the person I gave a promise ring to, in junior high, baffles many people. Their questions about how we keep our relationship alive even after decades of waking up next to the same person, makes us feel like newly discovered exotic animals seen on Animal Planet. Our love and relationships often gets analyzed the same way as the zoologists try to study and decode these ‘new’ species.
The truth is, it’s not that hard. It’s simply about choosing to be with the person you love. Valuing them over everything else. No disagreement or ego should come between you and your sweetheart. No one is perfect, neither are their relationships. Over the years, we’ve had our fair share of trials and tribulations. But every time, we chose love rather than just giving up on our relationship. It’s not about not seeing any flaws in your beloved. It’s about loving and accepting that person with all their flaws.
With three little ones running around the house, all under the age of seven, we rarely get to spend any quality time where it’s just the two of us— and even then, there’s always some cartoon playing at the background. This is the reason we leave no stone unturned on Valentine’s Day. The kids are either dropped off at their grandparents’ or we get a sitter, either way, Valentine’s Day celebrations is something that we never skip.
Every year, with great gusto, we make grand plans. We really put an effort into the ideas with which we can make the other one feel special. Hand-made heart-shaped cards, love letters, love-song playlists, scavenger hunts, candle-lit dinners, flowers, lingerie, weekend getaways, personalized love-books and charm bracelets—from cheesy to awesome—we’ve done it all. It doesn’t always go as planned but that’s what life is about, right? With all the adventures and misadventures we’ve had on Valentine’s Day so far, we might as well have our own hit reality TV show.
One gift that’s always loved and appreciated by the ‘love of my life’ is us going out of town for a few days—away from loads of laundry and squeaky toys. The best part about this gift is that, someone else takes care of all the necessary travel arrangements while we get to have fun exploring a new city. With three young kids, having a specific budget for everything is a vital part of our existence. Last year, searching for the best travel portals, I came across Lookupfare. Not only do they provide flight tickets at heavy discounts but they make sure that you have a pleasant booking experience. This year, they’re holding a contest where you just need to fill-in your details, choose a city and tell them about why you wanna go there.
The results of the contest will be announced in the early hours of 12th February 2017. There are four different prizes to be won so I am definitely gonna give it a try. What are the prizes to be won, you ask? Round trip to a place of your choice (from 13th to 15th Feb. 2017), dinner reservations for two, Amazon vouchers worth $25 to $100 and event tickets for two. This Valentine’s Day, I plan to take my sweetheart on an amazing trip, what about you?
